Clay County Fair

We have spent the day at the Clay County Fair. It is the highlight of the year for the district. For a town of 11,500 people in Spencer it is amazing to see the town gear up for 9 days of Fair activity. They average 300,000 people come through the gates! It very much reminded us of the Adelaide Show. We looked at many exhibits and had a wonderful time.

We viewed new RV's (huge motor homes which would be pure luxury to own. The prices are right .... we just can't see how we can get it shipped over to Oz at a realistic cost. (Mike and Bron - you would be very jealous of us if we turned up at Beachport in one of the ones we saw today!!!!!)

We bough the kids wrist bands when we arrived at the Fair (for $18 each) which gave the kids unlimited rides for a 6 hour period. What a great idea. They certainly got their money's worth.

We tried many different fair food which were new to us. Yummmm. Not a lot of 'healthy food', but I guess a fair isn't a place to be if you are watching your weight!

We had the newspaper reporter follow us around taking pictures and completing his interview. Now we know how the famous feel (LOL)

No show-bags or alcohol ... which is not a bad thing. We came home quite tired but very happy.

A really fun day - and we have got the t-shirts to prove it!!

  3. Andrew was eating some kind of potato dish (deep fried - like EVERYTHING is!) I didn't ask any questions about the butt rubs .... some things are better off not known!

We are having the best time. Haven't even given work a thought (well maybe only a little). We head off tomorrow where internet coverage is a bit dodgey, so blogging may slow down. However, the Rockie Mountains will more than make up for what coverage I will miss. I will have heaps of photos to upload.
